AXA – ‘Redefining Standards’ Value Away Day
The Challenge
AXA wanted to bring together 30 managers from different levels for an away day that was more than just PowerPoint and speeches. They needed a session that would:
- Build stronger connections to leadership competencies across the group
- Improve listening, cooperation and creative problem-solving
- Test leadership under pressure in a fun, memorable way
- Deliver practical learning that managers could take back to work
The Solution
Brainfood designed a bespoke team event using a high energy TV game show format, a few magic tricks and the usual Brainfood sparkle.
Managers competed in teams through a high-energy challenge called “The Great AXA Board Game”
- Everyone had to work together to design, build, package and pitch their own board game on the theme “Being the Best Manager You Can Be”
- Each team worked under time pressure with limited budgets, sudden changes and resource scarcity
- The day culminated in a fun and dynamic Dragon’s Den–style pitch (complete with masks), with winners chosen by their peers and senior leaders
- Uplifting award ceremony celebrating best demonstration of AXA leadership competencies
The activity blended competition, creativity and collaboration, while embedding AXA’s behaviours and values.
The Results
- Managers experienced first-hand the importance of clear communication, resource management, and delegation
- Teams discovered hidden strengths in colleagues they hadn’t worked with before
- The game format, TV theme tunes and activities made learning super fun and memorable, keeping energy levels high all day
